First Ward Arts District

Located west of Downtown Houston in the First Ward market area is a beautiful neighborhood in a well-established community. Surrounded by restaurants, entertainment venues, and shopping opportunities, the First Ward market area rests inside the 610 Loop. The home located on Winter Street was built in 2015.

Home to some of the oldest neighborhoods in Houston that feature a large concentration of Victorian homes built between 1854 and 1935, this area has quite a history. Founded in the 1800s, the area of Houston known as First ward was settled by immigrants from many places. It served as a major thoroughfare for shipping goods in the early days due to its location near Market Square, Buffalo Bayou, and two parallel railroad lines. In fact, many early residents of First Ward worked for the railroads. Today, the train lines serve as a reminder of the neighborhood’s history as you look to the present reflected in Houston’s picturesque skyline.

You’ll feel welcome right away as you make your way around town. Enjoy a day at Sawyer Yards, part of the Historic Arts District Once a collection of industrial warehouses, the area was transformed into art studios. It won’t take long to find the work of local artists in nearby businesses, galleries, and restaurants. Check out marine life at the Downtown Aquarium, a complex that features a 500,000-gallon aquarium, a restaurant, and rides. Make a trendy visit to the Beer Can House or the Art Car Museum for something a little more unique. Take in a relaxing evening at R Bar where you can enjoy trivia on Thursdays and steak nights on Fridays.

No matter how you fill your days, you’ll love returning to your beautiful home.
